Forbidden Fruit was inspired by the ‘lost city’ of Las Pozas (‘The Pools’) situated in the subtropical forest of the Mexican mountains. Named for the many waterfalls and natural pools in the area, the city was the eccentric, surrealist vision of wealthy British poet Edward James. James kept beautiful exotic birds, many species of orchids and many animals, including a pet boa constrictor, but despite selling his entire collection of Surrealist art he was never able to finish his mythical city.
